Youth Opportunities United (YOU) Data Collection & Analysis Data

This information is provided to anyone in the community who may find the tools included useful for planning and grant writing. Most of the tools are made available as Microsoft Office documents to facilitate copying and pasting charts, text, and data directly into plans and grant applications. These tools may be useful for the creation of community presentations, training, or workshops. Permission is granted to use materials in the tools for all these purposes.

• Nueces County Juvenile Delinquency Risk Factors Executive Summary, Revised Edition. This document provides a summary of the risk factors present in Nueces County.

• Nueces County Juvenile Delinquency Risk Factor Data and Trend Analysis, 7 th Edition. This report provides an analysis of the risk factor data and it also integrates data derived from the YOU Middle School/Junior High Student Survey - 2000.

• Delinquency Risk Factors with Supporting Data Indicators. This tool includes over 135 data indicators for 18 risk factors. This tool is updated quarterly.

• Youth Opportunities United PowerPoint Presentation. This PowerPoint presentation provides over 125 slides on the data indicators.

• Youth Opportunities United Fact Sheets. These facts sheets provide a summary of some of the risk factors present in the community. These facts sheets include: adult alcohol and drug use, economic deprivation, educational issues, family management, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, and youth alcohol and drug use.

• Comprehensive Strategy Development Project, Report & Plan. This report is a review of the progress of the 1999 plan. This report also includes suggested goals and activities for the next one to three years.

• Youth Opportunities United Middle School/Junior High Student Survey – 2000 Results, Volume 1. The questionnaire was designed to seek local, student-derived information on the Priority Risk Factors present in Nueces County. This volume provides the initial, descriptive analysis of the results of the student survey.

• Youth Opportunities United Middle School/Junior High Student Survey – 2000 Results, Volume 2. This volume examines the relationship between the Priority Risk Factors, problem behaviors, and victimization. The volume provides analysis of student responses in connection with protective factors.

• The Juvenile Assessment Center, FY 2004 Annual Report. This report provides background information about the JAC. The report also provides the number of clients served and the types of services utilized.

• Nueces County Community Plan. The FY 2005 - FY 2010 Nueces County Community Plan is the vehicle by which the citizens and service providers in Nueces County (1) identify and prioritize risk factors that lead to criminal activity and victimization and (2) respond with effective programs and an efficient services delivery system. Planning processes provide opportunities for agencies to exchange information regarding current services and encourage systemic networking among agencies to fill gaps in services. Working within the plan, agencies are better informed with respect to data-based community needs, researched best practices, and opportunities for collaboration thus enhancing the value of available resources, avoiding duplication when not beneficial, and encouraging complimentary services.

• Corpus Christi Commission Children and Youth Plan. The Commission on Children and Youth was formed to provide that link between public and community-based services and funding resources. Its purpose is also to provide guidance in forming a community-wide comprehensive approach to getting the right services to the right child and family at the right time.

• Youth Opportunities United Faith Community Survey – 2001, Results. This report provides an inventory of the programs and services offered to youth by the Faith Community in Nueces County.

• Youth Opportunities United Business Community Survey – 2001, Results. This report provides an inventory of the programs and services offered to youth by the Business Community in Nueces County.

• Grounding Community Change Within the Complexity of Community Visions of Safety. This report provides a brief look at four community change efforts’ uses of community surveys for initial planning, the ongoing evaluation and plan modification stages of planned change, and expansion of funding resources.
  
  
• Nueces County Protective Factors-2004. A report assessing the production of protective factors in as a result of the YOU initiative. An example of programmatic collection and reporting of output and outcome measures in support of planning and grant writing is described to encourage documentation of protective factors.

• Family Life Center Evaluation Fiscal Year 2002 - 2003. The mission of the FLC to reduce violence and behavioral problems while improving academic performance, self-esteem, and family bonding.

• Family and Community Violence Prevention Program, 2003-2004 Semi-Annual Report. The reports provides information on how the program positively impacts the incidence of violence and abusive behavior, academic failure, and early onset of problem behaviors within a low income, at-risk community through the mobilization of community partners and enriched activities.

• Networking to Meet the Demands of Youth: An Analysis of Communication
  Networks Among Nueces County Services Organizations (2004). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the use of social network analysis as a means to define and assess structural features of network organizations.
